The study, conducted by NerdWallet, compared U.S. cities with a population of 25,000 to 100,000 (Allen has about 90,000 residents). Income and affordability made up 50% of the score with prosperity, growth and family friendliness determining the rest. NerdWallet obtains data from GreatSchools.org and NeighborhoodScout.com to determine school ratings and crime data. Prices of homes in Allen have consistently increased over the years but really took an upward turn around 2012. The average price of a home in Allen in 2012 was $216,899 while the current price now is over $350,000. Currently Allen is in a strong seller's market with the days on market average under 12 and only a 2 months supply of inventory.
